A cloned staging site makes a migration safer because it gives you somewhere to test templates, content, integrations, and redirects before changing the live domain. A visual copy alone is not a migration plan.
Inventory the current site
Export or crawl URLs you are authorized to manage. Record status codes, titles, descriptions, canonical tags, indexability, structured data, internal links, forms, analytics, and important conversion paths. Identify pages that should be retired rather than copied.
Map the replacement
Recreate shared templates first, then migrate content into the new structure. Maintain a redirect map from valuable old URLs to their closest new destinations. Avoid sending unrelated URLs to the homepage.
Test integrations
Check assets, forms, search, authentication, payments, and email notifications in staging. Use test data, block staging from indexing, verify environment variables, and remove source-domain links before launch.
Launch carefully
Verify DNS, TLS, redirects, canonical URLs, robots rules, sitemap, analytics, error pages, and mobile layout. If you own the source, Kloner can help create an editable visual baseline, but a migration still requires a full URL and integration review.
