Cloning a website for a redesign gives you a safe working copy for evaluating structure and content. It is useful when a live site has traffic, integrations, or a publishing team that cannot tolerate experiments in production.
Preserve the baseline
Capture routes, titles, analytics events, forms, redirects, and key conversion paths. Save representative screenshots and record issues before changing anything. This lets you compare the redesign with the current experience instead of relying on memory.
Separate evidence from solutions
List evidence such as confusing navigation, duplicate content, slow pages, low form completion, or poor mobile behavior. Then propose changes. A visually different clone is not automatically a better site.
Test before migrating
Use real content lengths and include empty, error, and success states. Ask representative users to complete a task and compare completion and confusion with the baseline. Plan content migration, redirects, metadata, and integrations only after the design is validated.
Create a staging copy
Use Kloner with a page you own or have permission to reference. Keep the clone in staging and replace copied production data with safe test data before anyone outside the team sees it.
