How to Clone a Website Design Without Copying the Brand

Extract layout principles and reusable components from a website reference while producing an original visual system for your own product.

A website design clone is most useful when it captures decisions rather than identity. Study layout, hierarchy, spacing, interaction patterns, and responsive behavior, then create a new implementation for a different product and audience.

Extract principles

Look for container width, type scale, color roles, spacing rhythm, border treatment, image ratios, and component states. Ask why the hero has its hierarchy and why the CTA appears where it does. Write a design brief for your own audience and promise.

Build reusable pieces

Use components for buttons, cards, navigation, badges, and form controls. Keep copy and images separate from layout. A component that only works with the source site's exact headline lengths is not reusable yet.

Keep the boundary clear

Do not reuse logos, names, distinctive illustrations, proprietary copy, customer quotes, or licensed imagery without permission. Do not send visitor data to the source domain. Similar UX patterns are common; confusing brand identity is avoidable.

Make it your system

Kloner can turn a permitted public URL into an editable starting point at Kloner. Replace content, imagery, and design tokens so the finished result serves your audience rather than impersonating the reference.
